What is MOHS Surgery?

MOHS is a specialized technique for the removal of different skin cancers, developed over forty years ago by Dr. Frederic Mohs at the University of Wisconsin. Each year over 1 million new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed. Many of these are adequately treated by simple surgical excision or electrodesiccation and curettage. However, many certain tumors in particularly high risk locations, large tumors that may have recurred after previous surgery, or tumors in cosmetically important areas are best treated by MOHS surgery.
